Slip Through Mosaic Frame

This tutorial was written entirely by me on December 2, 2003. Any resemblence to any other tutorial is completely coincidental.

The image used for this tutorial was also made by me using tubes I made from graphics downloaded from a newsgroup. There are no known copyrights on the original images. I retain copyright to the image made and provided to you in the zip file below.

This tutorial was written using Paint Shop Pro 7.04, but can be done using other versions as well. It assumes that you have a basic working knowledge of Paint Shop Pro.

You will need the supplies that I've zipped together. Download it HERE.

You will also need: Paint Shop Pr. You can download a 30 day trial version HERE.
VM Toolbox, download it HERE. (Click on Downloads at the top, then Filters. It's listed under Visman.)
                          Simple Filters, download it HERE.

Are we ready?

From the supplies I've provided, extract the custom brush to your brushes folder in PSP. I'm not sure where I downloaded the brush from, but if anyone knows, could you please inform me so I can give proper credit.

Extract the Gold Foil.bmp to your patterns folder in PSP, or open it in your Paint Shop Pro and minimize it for later use.

Open the christmas.jpg in PSP or use another image of your choice.

If you're using my image, resize it to 75% and sharpen.

On your color palette, change your background color to black (#000000), go to Image/Add border and add a border of 1 pixel. Make sure Symmetric is checked. (All borders added in this tutorial will have Symmetric checked, so I won't be repeating that part.)

Using the magic wand, tolerance and feather set to 0, select the border you just added. (You might have to zoom in to see it.) Selections/Invert.

Go to Effects, 3D Effects, Cutout using these settings and making sure 'Fill interior with color' is NOT checked:

Repeat the cutout changing the Vertical and Horizontal to -3.

Selections, Select None.

Change your background color to a light color from your image (I used #E1EBA1), or use white and add a border of 1 pixel.

Background color Black, add a border of 1 pixel.

Change your background color to white and add a border of 3 pixels.

Select the border with the magic wand.

On your styles palette, click on the arrow for your foreground color and click on patterns.

Then click in the middle of the pattern shown and another box will pop up. Click on the arrow and scroll until you find the Gold Foil.bmp. Click on the pattern to select.

Change the Scale to 200% and the angle to 0. Click OK.
