Pixel Paint Birdhouse

This tutorial was written entirely by me on April 21, 2004. Any resemblance to any other tutorial is purely coincidental. I do have to give credit to Kentucky Creations for the technique on how to shape the birdhouse. I was able to do this after following the tutorial for their birdhouse found HERE.

This tutorial was written using Paint shop Pro 8.10, but can be done using PSP 7 as well.

For this tutorial you will need Jasc Paint Shop Pro. You can download a 30 day free trial HERE.

You can use my colors, or the colors of your choice. If you'd like to use my colors, just left click and drag the color swatch into your Paint Shop Pro (or right click and save to your hard drive). Lots of colors for such a little thing :-)

Open a new canvas 100 x 100 pixels. With your paint brush tool, at the following settings, use the following guide to draw your birdhouse. Use color #1 (#66422C) to outline the roof, color #2 (#8D333C) to outline the birdhouse, and color #3 (#000000) to outline the opening. (See below for a few eye saving hints.)

I tend to like to make things easier on my old eyes. I zoom in by 5 twice and turn the grid on with horizontal and vertical each set at one pixel. That makes it easier to count the pixels and saves my eyes a lot of strain. For those of you who are not sure how to do that, click HERE for instructions. (It will open in a new window.)

After completing the outline, choose your Magic Wand with these settings:

And follow the guide below to "color" your birdhouse.

With your Magic Wand, click inside the front roof area (marked with an A) and flood fill with color #4 (#D4BCA2). Selections/Float, Effects/3D Effects/Cutout at the following settings:

Vertical & Horizontal 0, Opacity 80, Blur 20, Color #1 (#66422C)

Selections/Select None.
